01 — THE CYCLEHow Poe's 24-hour reset actually works
Four different point balances live on a Poe account, and they refresh on four different schedules. Only one of them — the free daily grant — is described as a 24-hour cycle, and even that one has no published clock time.
| What resets | How it resets | Exact reset time | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free daily points 24-hour cycle |
Poe grants non-paying users points daily, and they reset at the end of each 24-hour period — Poe's own wording in its official FAQ. Unused free points do not roll over. | Not published. Poe states no hour and no time zone for the daily reset. Treat any specific time quoted elsewhere as a guess. | All free accounts on poe.com and the Poe apps. |
| Subscriber daily points daily grant |
Daily-tier plans (such as the reported 10,000-points/day starter tier) grant points daily, counted from when you purchased your subscription. | Not published. The grant rhythm is documented; the exact moment within the day is not. | Subscribers on daily-point plans. |
| Subscriber monthly points monthly grant |
Monthly plans grant their point bundle once per billing cycle, renewing on your point renewal date — the date tied to your original purchase, visible in Settings. | Your renewal date is shown in Settings; the exact grant moment on that date is not published. | Subscribers on monthly-point plans (the 660k – 8.25M point tiers). |
| Add-on points no reset · 1-year expiry |
Add-on points never “reset” — they sit on top of your plan balance until spent, and expire one year from the purchase date. | Expiry is exactly 1 year after purchase, per Poe's Terms of Sale. | Subscribers who buy extra points (see section 03). |
Why there's no countdown timer on this page: every other Reset Bible guide counts down to a reset moment the platform actually publishes. Poe publishes none — only “the end of each 24-hour period.” A countdown here would be a made-up number dressed up as fact, so instead: your personal renewal dates are in Settings on poe.com (section 04 shows exactly where). If Poe ever publishes an exact reset time, this page will get a timer the same day.
02 — FREE VS PAIDFree vs subscriber points — and the 2026 cut
Poe's help center confirms subscriptions “start at $4.99/month” but does not publish the full tier list — exact tiers live only in the in-app Subscribe pages. The ladder below is as reported from Poe's public plan pages in mid-2026, and the free allowance figure is third-party reported, because Poe doesn't publish it either. What is official: points are granted daily and/or monthly, and every bot charges its own point rate per message.
| Plan | Price (US) | Points | Reset behaviour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | ~300 points/day (reported — see below) | Resets at the end of each 24-hour period; no rollover |
| Starter (daily tier) | From $4.99/mo | 10,000 points/day (reported) | Daily grant from your purchase date |
| Monthly tier 1 | Within the reported $4.99–$249.99/mo range; exact per-tier prices shown only in-app | 660,000 points/month (reported) | Renews on your point renewal date |
| Monthly tier 2 | Within the reported $4.99–$249.99/mo range; exact per-tier prices shown only in-app | 1.65M points/month (reported) | Renews on your point renewal date |
| Monthly tier 3 | Within the reported $4.99–$249.99/mo range; exact per-tier prices shown only in-app | 3.3M points/month (reported) | Renews on your point renewal date |
| Monthly tier 4 | Within the reported $4.99–$249.99/mo range; exact per-tier prices shown only in-app | 8.25M points/month (reported) | Renews on your point renewal date |
- The March 2026 free-tier cut: third-party trackers reported the free daily allowance was slashed from 3,000 to 300 points/day around March 30, 2026 — a 90% cut. Poe's developer account publicly acknowledged it in an app-store review response (“Supporting free usage comes at a cost…”). Poe itself never published either number, so both are labeled reported, not official.
- Points are spent per message, at each bot's own rate: premium models cost far more points per message than small ones, and longer messages and attachments cost more. Every bot's rate is on its profile and behind the Rates button at the top of the chat — check before you send, not after.
- Cache discounts stretch your points: Poe documents automatic point discounts on cached context for some models — up to 50% for applicable OpenAI models and 90% for applicable Anthropic models — so continuing a conversation can be cheaper per message than starting fresh ones.
- Shared subscriptions: group members can each use up to 100% of the subscriber's point pool; only the subscriber can buy add-on points.
03 — ADD-ONS & ROLLOVERAdd-on points: $30 per million, good for a year
When plan points run out mid-cycle, subscribers don't have to wait for the reset — they can top up. Add-on points follow different rules from plan points, and the difference matters:
- Price: add-on points start at $30 per 1 million points — Poe's officially published reference price, also used in-app as the yardstick for what plan points are worth.
- Validity: add-on points are usable for one year from the purchase date, then they expire. They do not reset monthly.
- Terms: non-refundable, non-transferable, no cash value.
- Plan points don't roll over: Poe's Terms of Sale state unused subscription points do not roll over, unless your plan specifies otherwise — roll-over points and a “maximum subscription points at one time” cap are listed as features only some plans may include. Free points never roll over.
- Two balances, shown separately: Settings displays “Plan points” vs “Add-on points” under Available points, so you can always tell which pool a message is drawing from.
Strategy note: because plan points expire at each reset but add-on points last a year, heavy users are better off letting the daily/monthly grant absorb routine usage and keeping add-ons as the overflow buffer — the opposite order burns the expiring-soonest balance last. And near a renewal date, a top-up is usually worse value than waiting, unless you genuinely can't pause.
04 — YOUR NUMBERSWhere to check your own points & renewal dates
Since Poe publishes no universal reset clock, your account is the only authoritative source for your balances and renewal dates. Three official places to look:
Poe Settings — Points history
poe.com → Settings → PointsOpen Settings on poe.com and find the Points section, then View Points History: a per-message breakdown of what each message cost, plus your full points history. This is where you see exactly which bot or model drained your balance.
Open poe.com ↗Poe Settings — plan & renewal dates
poe.com → SettingsThe Settings page shows your subscription plan, payment date, point renewal dates, current point totals, and usage history — with plan points and add-on points broken out separately under Available points. Your renewal date here is the closest thing Poe has to a published reset time: it's yours.
Poe purchases FAQ ↗Before you send — bot Rates
Any chat → Rates buttonEach bot's profile shows its point cost before you message it, and the Rates button at the top of a chat shows what a message will cost. Poe does not publish a central rate table — rates live in-product and change with the models, so check in the chat itself.
Poe official FAQ ↗05 — FAQPoe reset questions, answered straight
When do Poe points reset?
For free users, Poe's official FAQ says points reset at the end of each 24-hour period. Subscribers receive points daily and/or monthly depending on their plan, counted from when the subscription was purchased — monthly points renew on the point renewal date shown in Settings.
What time exactly do Poe points reset?
Nobody outside Poe knows — because Poe has never published it. There is no official reset hour and no official time zone, for free or paid accounts. Sites quoting a precise Poe reset time (midnight UTC, midnight Pacific, or anything else) are guessing. What you can see exactly is your own renewal date, in Settings on poe.com.
How many free points does Poe give per day?
Poe does not officially publish the number. Third-party trackers reported the free daily allowance was cut from 3,000 to 300 points/day around March 30, 2026, and Poe's developer account publicly acknowledged the cut in an app-store review response. So: ~300/day is the current reported figure — enough for a handful of messages to premium bots, or more to cheaper ones, since every bot charges its own rate.
Do unused Poe points roll over?
Generally, no. Poe's Terms of Sale (rewritten March 19, 2026) say unused points do not roll over unless your specific plan says otherwise — roll-over points are listed as a feature only some subscription plans may include, alongside a possible cap on points held at one time. Free points explicitly never roll over. Add-on points are the exception in practice: they don't roll over either — they simply live for one year from purchase.
What are add-on points, and how much do they cost?
Add-on points are a top-up subscribers can buy beyond their plan, starting at $30 per 1 million points. They're usable for one year from purchase, and they're non-refundable, non-transferable, and have no cash value. Settings shows them separately from plan points under Available points, and you can also buy them from the API Key page via Stripe checkout.
How much does one Poe message cost?
It depends on the bot, the model behind it, and your message. Each bot sets its own point rate, shown on its profile and via the Rates button at the top of the chat. Longer messages, attachments, and premium models cost more. One offset: Poe applies automatic discounts on cached context for some models — documented at up to 50% for applicable OpenAI models and 90% for applicable Anthropic models.
Where can I check my points balance and history?
On poe.com, open Settings. The Points section's View Points History gives a per-message cost breakdown and full history; the Settings page also shows your plan, payment date, point renewal dates, and your plan vs add-on totals. There is no public page — including this one — that can show your numbers; they're behind your login by design.
When do subscriber monthly points renew?
On your point renewal date — the monthly date tied to when you purchased the subscription, shown in Settings. Poe's Terms of Sale describe points as granted “on a regular basis (daily and/or monthly) from when you purchased your Poe Subscription.” Whether the grant lands at the exact purchase moment within that day is not published.
What changed with Poe points in 2026?
Three things. (1) In March 2026 the free daily allowance was reportedly cut 3,000 → 300 points. (2) Poe rewrote its Terms of Sale on March 19, 2026, reframing plans as daily-and/or-monthly point bundles with per-plan features (roll-over points, maximum points at one time, shared/group subscriptions, auto top-up). (3) The old single-plan model (~$19.99/mo for ~1M points/month) was replaced by a multi-tier ladder — reported as a 10,000-points/day starter up to 8.25M points/month, priced from $4.99 to $249.99/mo.
Can I share my Poe subscription's points?
Yes — shared and group subscriptions are a documented feature of Poe's current Terms of Sale. Each group member can use up to 100% of the subscriber's point pool, but only the subscriber can purchase add-on points. Note a shared pool drains at the combined rate of everyone in the group — the reset schedule doesn't change.
