01 — THE RENAMEWindsurf is now Devin Desktop
If you last looked at Windsurf in 2025, almost everything on this page will be new: the owner, the name, the billing model and the price. The short timeline:
- July 2025 — acquisition. Cognition AI, the maker of the Devin coding agent, agreed to acquire Windsurf (reported at roughly $250M), after an earlier reported OpenAI deal fell apart.
- March 19, 2026 — the quota overhaul. The monthly credit system was retired and replaced with daily + weekly usage quotas. Pro rose from $15 to $20/month, a new Max tier at $200/month was added, and existing subscribers were grandfathered with 7 days added to their renewal date.
- April 2026 — old Devin plans retired. The former Devin Core/Team plans (with their old $500/month entry point) were retired; former Core users were moved to Free.
- June 2, 2026 — the rename. The Windsurf editor was rebranded Devin Desktop, and Devin and the former Windsurf merged into a single pricing table. The canonical documentation now lives at docs.devin.ai.
Stale pages warning: plenty of review sites still show the retired system — “Pro $15, 500 credits,” “Free 25 credits/month,” “add-ons $10 per 250 credits.” Those numbers were real until March 2026 and are wrong now. If a page talks about Windsurf credits in the present tense, it hasn't been updated.
02 — THE QUOTA SYSTEMDaily + weekly quotas, explained
Since March 2026 there is no monthly quota and no credit balance. Your subscription (still billed monthly) includes two overlapping usage allowances that refresh on their own schedule — independent of your billing date.
| Cycle | When it resets, exactly | Time zone behaviour | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily quota calendar date |
Refreshes automatically daily, based on the calendar date — the official docs' exact wording. The precise moment of the refresh is not published. | Not published. No hour and no time zone (not UTC, not Pacific, nothing) appears anywhere in the official documentation. | All plans: Free, Pro, Max, Teams, Enterprise. |
| Weekly quota calendar date |
Refreshes automatically weekly, based on the calendar date. Which weekday the weekly cycle turns on is not documented either. | Not published — same as the daily refresh. The in-app usage meter shows your actual reset; the public docs do not. | All plans. Sizes differ by tier (see the plan table below). |
| Extra usage no reset — pay as you go |
When included quota runs out on a paid plan, you can buy extra usage billed at API list prices. It is overage, not a pool — there is nothing to reset. | Charged per use at API list prices; model cost per token varies (see the official model table). | Paid plans (Pro and above). |
The honest part: unlike OpenAI or Claude, Devin Desktop publishes no exact reset time and no time zone — only “based on the calendar date.” That is why this page deliberately has no countdown timer. A countdown would require inventing an hour, and an invented hour would send you back to work at the wrong time. The usage meter inside the app shows the real countdown for your account; check it there.
How the two quotas interact
- The daily quota is deliberately generous: officially, “your daily quota is more than 1/7 of your weekly quota” — so weekend workers can still spend their full weekly allowance. The daily cap paces you; the weekly cap is the real budget.
- Usage is token-metered, not request-counted: “Your budget is based on how many tokens the model uses for each request. The cost per token varies by model.” Frontier models (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini) burn quota faster than Cognition's in-house SWE models (SWE-2, SWE-1.7, SWE-1.6).
- Free models are free: models marked free “don't count against your quota at all.”
- No rollover: unused daily or weekly quota is not banked — it expires at each refresh. (Under the retired credit system, purchased add-on credits rolled over but plan credits did not; that distinction died with the credit system.)
- Not everything is metered: inline edits and Tab completions are unlimited, including on the Free plan — only agent usage draws from the quotas.
03 — PLANS & 2026 PRICINGEvery tier on the unified Devin pricing table
After the June 2026 rename, Devin and the former Windsurf share one pricing table. The headline change from the old Windsurf era: Pro went from $15 to $20/month in the March 19, 2026 overhaul, and a $200 Max tier appeared. Quota sizes are described comparatively by Cognition — exact token figures per tier are not published.
| Plan | Price (US) | Quota | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Light daily + weekly quota for agent usage; limited model access | Unlimited inline edits and Tab completions. No credit card system, no credits — the free tier moved to quotas in March 2026 along with everyone else. |
| Pro | $20/mo · was $15/mo until Mar 19, 2026 | Increased daily + weekly quota | Full frontier model access (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, plus Cognition's SWE models); cloud agents (Devin Cloud); extra usage buyable at API list prices. |
| Max | $200/mo · new tier, Mar 2026 | Significantly higher quota than Pro | Everything in Pro with a much larger allowance; reported to pair a much larger weekly quota with no daily cap. |
| Teams | $80/mo base + $40/mo per full dev seat | Pro-level quota per full seat | Up to 200 users; “flex” seats are free and draw from a shared pool. Centralized billing, admin analytics, priority support. |
| Enterprise | Custom | Contract-set | Billed in Agent Compute Units (ACUs) at order-form rates. SSO/SAML/OIDC, audit logs, dedicated deployment option. |
- Billing cycle ≠ quota cycle: you are still billed monthly, but nothing about your usage resets on the billing date — the quotas refresh daily and weekly regardless.
- Grandfathering: subscribers who were on the old credit plans when the March 2026 overhaul landed received 7 days added to their renewal date as part of the transition.
04 — YOUR NUMBERSWhere to check your own usage & reset time
Because Cognition publishes no universal reset time, your account is the only authoritative source. Three official places to look:
In the app — the usage meter
Devin Desktop → usage meterThe meter inside Devin Desktop shows your remaining daily and weekly quota and when it resets. This is the only real countdown that exists for your account — the public documentation deliberately doesn't publish the underlying hour or time zone.
Web — your plan page

docs.devin.aiThe official quota page states the daily/weekly system in Cognition's own words, and the model page lists what each model costs against your quota — worth checking before a long agent session on a frontier model.

When does my Devin Desktop (Windsurf) quota reset?
Your plan includes a daily quota and a weekly quota, and both refresh automatically based on the calendar date — that is the exact wording of the official documentation. Cognition does not publish the precise hour or time zone of the refresh. The usage meter inside Devin Desktop shows your remaining quota and when it resets, and it is the only authoritative countdown.
Is Windsurf now Devin Desktop?
Yes. Cognition, the maker of Devin, acquired Windsurf in July 2025, and on June 2, 2026 the Windsurf editor was renamed Devin Desktop. Devin and the former Windsurf now share a single pricing table, and the canonical quota documentation lives on docs.devin.ai.
What happened to Windsurf credits?
They were retired. In March 2026 (the overhaul took effect March 19, 2026) the monthly credit system — Pro at $15/month with 500 credits, Free with 25 credits a month, add-ons at $10 per 250 credits — was replaced by daily and weekly usage quotas. If a site still shows you a credit table for Windsurf, it is out of date.
Does the Devin Desktop quota reset at midnight?
Nobody outside Cognition can honestly tell you that. The official docs say only that the quota resets on a daily and weekly basis, “based on the calendar date” — no hour and no time zone are published anywhere in the documentation. Any site naming a specific reset hour for Devin Desktop is guessing. Your app's usage meter shows the real countdown for your account.
Does unused quota roll over?
No. Under the current quota system, unused daily or weekly quota is not banked — it expires at each refresh, and the documentation describes only automatic refresh with no accumulation mechanism. Purchased add-on credits used to roll over under the old credit system, but that system is retired.
What happens when I run out of quota?
On paid plans you can buy extra usage, billed at API list prices — pay-as-you-go overage rather than a monthly pool. On the Free plan you wait for the next daily or weekly refresh. Note that free models do not count against your quota at all, and Tab completions and inline edits are unlimited even on Free, so some work can continue while agent quota is exhausted.
How much does Devin Desktop Pro cost now?
$20/month. It was $15/month until the March 19, 2026 pricing overhaul, when the price rose and a new Max tier was added at $200/month with a significantly higher quota. Existing subscribers at the time of the overhaul were grandfathered with 7 days added to their renewal date.
Do all models cost the same amount of quota?
No. Usage is token-metered: “your budget is based on how many tokens the model uses for each request, and the cost per token varies by model.” Frontier models from OpenAI, Claude and Gemini cost more quota per request than Cognition's in-house SWE models, and free models do not count against your quota at all. The official model cost table is on docs.devin.ai.
Why is the daily quota more than a seventh of the weekly quota?
That is deliberate, and the official docs say why: “your daily quota is more than 1/7 of your weekly quota, enabling users who work on weekends to fully use their weekly allowance.” In other words, the daily cap is a pacing mechanism, not a strict division of the week — a heavy single day is allowed as long as the weekly total holds.
Where can I see my remaining quota and reset time?
In the usage meter inside Devin Desktop itself — it shows your remaining daily and weekly quota and when it resets. Your plan page (windsurf.com/subscription/manage-plan, sign-in required) shows your subscription details, and the official quota documentation is at docs.devin.ai/desktop/accounts/quota.
